To place a call on hold, press the button with a hand icon.  Your caller will hear music while on hold.  When resuming the call, press the button to the right of the display screen (it will be red) to show there is a call in progress.

If you would like to resume the call on speaker phone, just press the speaker phone key (clear button with speaker icon).
